"God of War" for the PS4 was one of the biggest reveals of this year's E3 event and one of the most notable features is the change in perspective as the game now utilizes an over-the-shoulder camera. Speaking to EPNdotTV, creative director Cory Barlog revealed the influences that steered the game into its new direction.

Barlog explained that many fans almost immediately compared the new "God of War" to Naughty Dog's "The Last of Us," due to the camera angle, combat mechanics and the fact that Kratos is now adventuring with a young child by his side, akin to how Joel in "The Last of Us" travelled with Ellie.

However, Barlog confirmed that they did look at a different game when developing this new entry in the series but still acknowledged "The Last of Us" as a spectacular game.

"'The Last of Us' is an amazing game, and Naughty Dog is an unbelievably talented team," he explained. "To be compared to them is awesome. But to me, the influence is much more that transition from 'Resident Evil 3' to 'Resident Evil 4', and the 'God Of War' audience being ready for more mature stories. Dramatically we're challenging people to dig a little deeper, not handing all the answers to them."

When asked if scenes from the older games in the franchise might be revisited via flashback sequences, Barlog expressed interest although he did not outright confirm nor deny if they were indeed going to be included in the final game. These flashbacks may help link the new game, set in the Nordic world, with the Greek lore of the classics.

Fans speculate that the game may be launching as late as Q3 or Q4 2017. However, the developers at Sony Santa Monica have yet to issue an official statement regarding the game's release window. "God of War" is confirmed to be a PS4 exclusive.
