Fans were delighted when "God of War 4" was confirmed at the recently concluded Electronic Entertainment Expo 2016. Kratos, the protagonist of the series, has traveled from Greece to the Nordic region to start a new life and redeem himself.

It was previously rumored that the upcoming game will feature a different hero because of the Norse mythology that was uncovered earlier, but it turned out to be the same character who just got older. Game director Cory Barlog spoke with Game Spot to provide more information on the upcoming game, particularly the reason they chose the region.

He said, "A lot of people think Norse, they think Viking, but there's really this amazing prehistory--the migration, and then prior to that, the pre-migration era."

Barlog added,"In the Viking era, they always talked about, 'The gods have abandoned us.' Thor and Loki and Odin all walked the Earth at one point, but they're not around anymore. [The Vikings] fight for them, but they're not there. This idea that we're at is saying, 'We're at a prehisory point, where gods did walk the Earth, when monsters were real, before they became extinct.'"

Fans were also able to witness Kratos's son when game developer Sony's Santa Monica Studio presented its gameplay trailer. The idea of having a child actually helped the creative team reinvent Kratos and the "God of War" series. The fourth iteration of the game is a soft reboot of the franchise, where Kratos is starting all over again together with his wife and son.  His wife will have an important role in the game, the team added.

Meanwhile, the hero will not be using his signature double-chained blades, since it was lost during the final battle in the earlier game. Fans were able to witness a magical battle axe that can be infused with elemental abilities, which make it more powerful.

Gaming Bolt added that players can expect over a hundred enemy types and bigger boss fights than its predecessor.

No release date has been announced for the availability of "God of War 4" on the PlayStation 4, but fans are expecting it to arrive next year.
