'God of War 4' release date rumored for early 2017; Kratos may not be main character

The announcement of the release of "God of War 4" was made last year, but up to now there's still no confirmation of the specific release date for this game. Regardless of this, a lot of things point to the game's production, and some clues point out that this game will be massive.

One of this is the fact that the remastered version of "God of War 3" has already been released, last year, and according to a PlayStation blog post by "God of War" series head writer Cory Barlog, once they're done with the remaster they'll start focusing on the "God of War 4" game. So this only means one thing: Sony Studios Santa Monica is already working on the fourth "God of War" game.

Another piece of evidence of the game's upcoming release is a sponsored post by Gamasutra earlier this year. In this post, it says that the Sony Santa Monica studios is hiring a total of 50 developers to work on the next big game for the PlayStation 4, which could mean that the upcoming "God of War" game will be huge.

However, while this game will certainly make waves once it hits the shelves, a lot of speculations point that Kratos will not be in the game, to the dismay of fans. After all, the 3rd game sort of ambiguously concluded Kratos's journey, so it's pretty difficult to imagine him coming back for the next installation. So it could be possible that a new protagonist could take the spotlight.

If that's the case, most likely the "God of War 4" game will become either a spin-off or a prequel to the original game. After all, some rumors online say the game will include other divine pantheons, such as Norse Gods like Odin, Loki, Thor and others.
