Action-adventure game series "God of War" is getting a PlayStation 4 title, although fans have long been wondering about the game's exact launch date. However, on Dec. 5, Sony may have inadvertently leaked the game's release date on their online store.

"God of War" for the PlayStation 4 was expected to have an early 2018 release date, although the exact date was never announced. But as reported by VG247, the game's online store listing briefly set its release date as March 22, 2018.

This could merely be an error on Sony's part. Publishing a specific launch date without an accompanying official announcement most likely shows an unintentional leak or at the very least an honest oversight.

A look at the game's online store page shows that the release date has changed. It now displays Dec. 31, 2018, with a countdown saying that the "full game is expected to be available in 390 days." Of course, this is just a placeholder date — Sony's way of saying that the game will be released before the end of next year.

"God of War" was first officially announced at the 2016 Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3). It will still feature the main series character Kratos.

The game will be the sequel to the 2010 game "God of War III." At the same time, it will serve as a soft reboot for the franchise. One of its most notable features is the change of setting. While all previous games in the series featured gods from Greek mythology, "God of War" 2018 will pit Kratos against the gods of Norse mythology.

The game is expected to maintain its spectacular action elements. "God of War" 2018 will also put more detail in the exploration part of the series. The exploration element of the game will be improved, as inspired by the "Legend of Zelda" series of games.
