'Godzilla: Planet of the Monsters' news: Japanese anime film to start streaming worldwide via Netflix on Jan. 17

Netflix Japan just announced the release date for the anime film "Godzilla: Planet of the Monsters" on the online streaming platform. The anime movie will be released worldwide to Netflix subscribers on Jan. 17 .

The trailer uploaded by Netflix Japan highlights the main characters of the movie and the monster itself. The announcement was well received by a number of netizens, with many expressing their excitement after waiting for the update from the online video streaming company.

The plot of the anime as presented by Netflix is about "A desperate group of refugees attempts to recolonize Earth 20,000 years after Godzilla took over. But one young man wants revenge above all else."

Japanese film directors Kobun Shizuno and Hiroyuki Seshita teamed up to lead the movie. The main character Haruo Sakaki is voiced by renowned Japanese actor Mamoru Miyano, who is known for her voice roles in several anime series. Miyano voiced a number of characters for both series and films like "Steins; Gate," "One Punch Man," "Soul Eater," "New Initial D the movie: Legend 3 - Dream," and more. Miyano is joined by other talented voice actors like Kana Hanazawa, Takahiro Sakurai, Tomokazu Sugita, and Yuki Kaji.

The movie was first released in Japan on Nov. 17, 2017. Netflix will now bring the movie across a number of countries during the third week of January. The movie got a 7.1 out of 10 score rating from IMDb.

"Godzilla: Planet of the Monsters" is the first movie installment to the proposed trilogy produced by production giant Toho. The second film to the Godzilla franchise is titled "Godzilla Kessen Kido Zoshoku Toshi" in Japanese and "Godzilla: Battle Mobile Breeding City" in English. The monster Mechagodzilla is expected to appear in the sequel.

There are still no further information from Toho about the plot of the second movie and its exact release date in 2018.
