Big screen monsters Godzilla and King Kong could be facing each other once again based on the news about a shift in studios.

In a report from Deadline, it was mentioned that Legendary Pictures is moving the prequel to King Kong, entitled "Kong: Skull Island," from Universal Studios to Warner Bros. Pictures.

Warner Bros. is currently entitled to the rights of Legendary's other monstrous property, Godzilla.

The change in the studio could mean the possibility of a Godzilla vs. King Kong movie once Warner Bros.' Godzilla sequel arrives in theaters by 2018, the exclusive report stated.

Putting the two famous monsters would surely be epic but it's not the first time they shared moments on-screen.

The gigantic ape and the fire-breathing reptile first met in the 1962 Japanese film, "King Kong vs. Godzilla," directed by Ishirō Honda.

The match did not yield a clear winner — some believe that Kong triumphed, while others claimed Godzilla was the clear victor.

In the movie, both monsters fell off a cliff into the Pacific Ocean, but viewers saw how Kong resurfaced and swam back to his home, while the gigantic, radioactive reptile was nowhere in sight. However, it was speculated that he survived and could be somewhere.

With the news about studio turnover, will this mean that Godzilla will return and fight another battle with Kong? If a brawl between the two happens again, it's expected that fans will definitely be excited about it.

Legendary Pictures has not made any deal with Warner Bros. but its "Skull Island," on the other hand, is making progress and is actually in pre-production.

Tom Hiddleston, Corey Hawkins, and Brie Larson are reportedly starring in the movie and filming should start later this year or early next year.

Jordan Vogt-Roberts will take over the director's seat and the movie is set to be released on March 10, 2017.
