2015 Golden Globe nominees for Best Motion Picture, Drama[theatrical release posters | Wikipedia]

The Golden Globes is the next best thing to the Academy Awards. It is an award-giving body that combines TV and film, which makes for a more momentous event and memorable night. On top of that, the Golden Globes makes sure that their hosts are always fun to watch. This year, it will be the unstoppable comedic pairing of Tiny Fey and Amy Poehler.

As the two have described, the Golden Globes is an event where "the beautiful people of film rub shoulders with the rat-faced people of television."

This is Fey and Poehler's third time to host the awards show. But as always, Poehler made a joke about it when she confirmed her hosting gig on The Today Show. She said that it was sad news and then said, "Unless you want to be a perennial host, there's nowhere to go but down."

Meanwhile, the Golden Globes is actually the Hollywood Foreign Press Association Awards. The HFPA is the body that decides who gets nominated. It is an organization of international journalists who represent 55 countries across the different continents. They are composed of 90 members who actively participate in over 300 interviews, film and TV screenings every year.

The nominees were revealed last Dec. 12, 2014. There are 25 award categories in total, 14 for film and 11 for TV. The final voting stage started Dec. 22 and will end on Jan. 7. By Jan. 11, the Golden Globes will take place.

It is quite a free-for-all this year as surprising contenders made the list, while the expected nominees are nowhere to be found. "Homeland" got snubbed for Best TV Drama and only Claire Danes got recognized for her acting prowess. "Game of Thrones" is also nominated in the same category, but predictions go to "The Affair" as the winner.

Meanwhile, in film, the Best Motion Drama might go to "Selma." "Birdman" also has a good chance of raking in most of the awards they are nominated for. The complete list of nominess has been posted by ABC.

The Golden Globes will air live from Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills on Jan. 11 at 6 p.m.
