The Golden State Warriors ended four decades of title drought last season winning the 2015 NBA championship against the Cleveland Cavaliers and their head coach Steve Kerr is just surprised with how well it all went for the team.

"It's ironic, but the unexpected thing was that everything went exactly as we hoped. That never happens," Kerr said Thursday according to ESPN.

Kerr shared that everything started with a video shown to them in October which had the theme 'strength in numbers' and was narrated by Marv Albert.

That soon became the Warriors' battle cry for the season and was highlighted during their playoff run.

"We're going to be a deep team. We're going to sacrifice. Guys are going to play some nights. They're not going to play other nights. Can we do that? That's what it takes to be a championship team," Kerr stated regarding the statement 'strength in numbers.'

"It all sounds great. You put that together, for that to actually come true in the most profound way? With Andre Iguodala winning the MVP after being the first guy to sacrifice his job," Kerr added.

The rookie NBA coach also said, "All this stuff that you kind of hope can actually unfold and happen and use as a strength instead of a dividing force, it actually happened.That was, as I said, ironically, sort of the most unexpected thing -- that things would unfold perfectly."

Kerr is the first coach to win the NBA championship in his rookie season since Pat Riley accomplished the feat in 1982 with the Los Angeles Lakers.

After leading Golden State to the Larry O'Brien Trophy, the 49-year-old coach received congratulatory remarks from his former coaches Phil Jackson and Gregg Popovich whom he won NBA championships with.

Former teammate San Antonio spurs big man Tim Duncan also congratulated him via text message saying, "It's that easy, huh?"

Meanwhile for his plans this offseason Kerr said, "I just want to sit on my couch and watch the U.S. Open and drink beer."
