'Good marriages don't just happen,' says Care for the Family

Richard Hardy and Katharine Hill will hit the road this autumn with the message that, "Good marriages don't just happen - they need an investment of time and effort."

Hardy and Hill are the presenters of Care for the Family's It Takes Two event which helps couples focus on their marriage, rediscovering romance and increasing their confidence in the possibility of a happy and fruitful marriage.

"People often think that relationships just happen - but the time and effort that is needed is so often squeezed out by our busy lifestyles."

It Takes Two will tour York, Derby, Reading and Cranham and builds on the success of previous tours.

During the evening, Richard and Katharine will help participants take a fresh look at marriage 'as it really is' - "not the glossy image which is often portrayed on magazines, but the reality of relationships which need co-operation, commitment and the challenge of surviving day-to-day life".

Hardy assured, however, that attending a marriage event was not necessarily a signal that a marriage has hit the rocks.

"It's simply that you want to invest in your marriage and make it stronger," he said.

It Takes Two addresses issues of communication, practical ideas to keep the relationship alive, dealing with the differences between men and women, 'straight talk' about sex and settling arguments.

"It never ceases to amaze me how different men and women are in their approach to things," said Hill. "I've been married for 22 years and I still find that my husband will do something one way and I will think 'why on earth did he do it like that?'

"As we look at how we are programmed differently, couples will often see how they relate to one another - it's often like a light has been switched on."
