'The Good Wife' season 7 spoilers: Vanessa Williams will be Eli's love interest

Eli Gold (Alan Cumming) will have a very hectic job in The Good Wife season 7.CBS

Eli will be in quite a lot of jams in "The Good Wife" season 7 with Peter enlisting another campaign strategist in the person of Margo Martindale's Ruth Eastman as he endeavors to run for president in the new season.

In the trailer for the upcoming season, Eli, who has genuinely invested in Peter's political aspirations and has done quite an excellent job at damage control, almost declares war upon learning Peter's decision. While it seems to go downhill from there, someone special comes along.

Season 7 won't be completely hard on Eli, who will meet a love interest in "Desperate Housewives" star Vanessa Williams. According to TV Line, the actress will play a recurring role but not much information, not even the character's name, was provided.

Williams is among the slew of cast members joining the show in the new season. Another one is Jeffrey Dean Morgan, who will play the role of an experienced hourly investigator named Jason Crouse and is projected as a love interest for Alicia. The former state attorney will hire Jason as she tries to build her own law firm after being kicked out by the one she had with Cary and Diane. Cush Jumbo will also star as Lucca Quinn. She will be an attorney who will compete with Alicia at the start of the season.

The new season premieres on Oct. 4 with an episode titled "Bond." Here is the synopsis for the episode via The Futon Critic:

Alicia attempts to revive her struggling law career by representing arrestees seeking release on bail in bond court, where she meets attorney Lucca Quinn, who competes for her clients. Also, Peter brings in national strategist Ruth Eastman to help with his presidential campaign, and creates an interesting dynamic with Eli in the process."
