"Goodbye Christopher Robin" premiered last Wednesday at the New York Public Library with the cast complete and present.

In an exclusive interview with Collider, Robbie said that she did not know anything about the backstory that the film had prior to getting the script. The 27-year-old actress was surprised at how important the story of "Winnie the Pooh" was to the people in that time in history. She learned how the books brought joy and light to the lives of the people living in a country that was just recovering from the First World War.

Co-star Kelly Macdonald added that she too was surprised to learn of the popularity of the books written by A.A. Milne and the impact that it made, which made teddy bears the most popular item of the time. She added that the teddy bears were sort of a way to make people feel that they were safe.

Robbie also said that playing the role of Daphne was liberating and a good experience because the dynamic balance between what was real and what was a "movie tweak" was already in the script written by Frank Cottrell-Boyce.

While the rest of the world were swept by the sweet and innocent story of "Winnie the Pooh," the real life struggles of a family dealing with WWI and fame at the same time was what the film "Goodbye Christopher Robin" aimed to tell.

"Child actors today made a choice to go into the industry and play characters, but Christopher Robin didn't. He had that choice taken away from him and he was thrust into the limelight unwillingly," Robbie explained to The Hollywood Reporter on the premiere night of the biopic. She further added that the sad part of it all was that there was barely any difference between the Christopher Robin in the book and the boy in real life.
