The Android team has officially announced the rollout of the latest version of their operating system, Android Lollipop. The new 5.1 version deals with the issues of its predecessor and has a handful of new features the will definitely improve users' experience. 

In the official statement on the Official Android blog, new features for the new version include multiple SIM card support, device protection, and HD voice on compatible phones. 

For owners of phones with multiple SIM ports, SIM switching is made easier without the need to actually swap SIM cards. Meanwhile, those with lost or stolen phones can also secure their handsets under 5.1. Even if the phone undergoes a factory reset, a setting can be made where the handset will require a sign-in with the original Google account. This feature will be ported first with Nexus 6 and 9, and will continue to roll out to other devices shipped with Lollipop 5.1. 

High Definition voice calls are now also possible, especially between 5.1 handsets where HD voice calls are activated. Also, in Lollipop 5.1, there will be a Quick Settings shortcut for Wi-Fi connectivity. Controls of Bluetooth-connected peripherals are also made handy with a quick button right on the Quick Settings. 

Tweaks are also made to the new version to address problems with Android 5.0. Those who would upgrade to the new version will have improved RAM and battery management, app closure fixes, wireless connection issue tweaks, solved Okay Google problems, and Wi-Fi issue fixes. Silent mode is also now available on Android 5.1. 

The new Android 5.1 Lollipop update will be installed on new devices that will ship out early this year. In some cases, the new version may already have been available for update over the air, especially for T-Mobile's Google Nexus 4, Nexus 5, and Nexus 7 (2013).
