Allwinner, a startup tech firm, is in the process of releasing a wearable that will deliver a similar function to Google Glass, but will carry a fraction of the price tag. Currently, the tech giant Google and its wearable carries a retail price of $1500, which is considered as an overpriced product for a majority of the wearable consumer population. Currently, Allwinner has not given a name to its upcoming device, but according to GizChina, the wearable features a similar aesthetic to the expensive Google Glass.

As for the hardware specifications, the website states that $199 Google Glass competitor will be incorporated with Allwinner's own A33 SoC. The chipset will feature the following specifications:

• Processor: Quad core ARM Cortex A7
• GPU: ARM Mali 400 MP2 (2 cores)
• Memory: DDR3/DDR3L SDRAM
• Decoding: 1080p 60 FPS video playback
• Max LCD resolution: 1280 × 800

The $199 priced device will be featuring a tech similar to Google Glass which improves the overall interface experience when the wearer attaches the head piece in front of their eyes. The technology is called optical prism optic. To connect to other devices and wireless networks, a Bluetooth and Wi-Fi adapter will also be present inside the product. As for availability, Allwinner has currently not given details on when its wearable will be available for commercial use.

Even though Google Glass was termed as a commercial failure, a large portion of its unsuccessful run had to do with its ridiculously large price tag. With the $199 unnamed model, a new class of affordability will be introduced. Naturally, due to the price disparity, users might not be able to able to experience the same interface as they did if they were in possession of Google Glass, but Allwinner states that its upcoming product will exceed its competitor in both price, performance and functionality.
