Google has recently launched a mobile app that can help with managing mobile data. Called Datally, the lightweight app has features that will help Android users understand how their connection is used. It also offers an interface that can manage data better.

One of the app's main features is to show users the total data a specific device is consuming. Datally can display what apps use the most data, and it can also show the times of day that incur the most substantial data usage. An additional feature suggests Wi-fi networks to connect to in lieu of the mobile data connection.

Users can continuously monitor how much data is being used by the current app, in real-time. This information is displayed with the help of a little bubble that is similar to chat heads.

Datally also features a nifty button can block all data usage — users can press this if they want to restrict data usage exclusively for the app that is actually onscreen. This will cut down on the consumption by blocking background apps that automatically use the connection.

There are situations when blocking every app from the data connection would not be viable. For this, Datally also offers a blocking feature on an app-to-app basis. That is, users can choose which individual apps to allow or restrict data access.

Of course, most of these features were already built-in on the Android. However, accessing the features requires users to delve into the Settings page, a process which some users may find complicated. Datally presents such features in a neat user interface. It makes all the critical points of data usage more accessible and easier to understand.

Datally has undergone tests in the Philippines since the last summer, and in that period the app has amassed more than 500,000 users. The app was released worldwide on Nov. 29, and it will run on devices with Android 5.0 and above. The app is currently available for download via the Google Play Store.
