Google has already started rolling out the new Android Nougat platform. Speculations suggest that with the 2016 editions of the Google Nexus smartphones being unveiled in October, Google may already feature Android Nougat 7.1 in the new flagships.

Reportedly, since Google has started rolling out the new Android Nougat platform, the tech ginat giant is now focusing on updates, and has already started testing Android Nougat 7.1. This means that a stable version is likely to release by October, which is also the rumored timeline for the 2016 Google Nexus flagships.

Meanwhile, another supposed tipster, Nate Benis, stated that the supposed leaks for the HTC Marlin and Sailfish – the alleged new 2016 Nexus flagships – are based on "N maintainence release 1. Nmr1." Apparently, the current "full version" of Android Nougat being released is only adapted from the latest developer preview.

Benis added, "Current version of Android N that is being pushed to nexus devices is based on developer preview 5 and does not have any of the 'proprietary features android police and myself have been leaking' expect a developer preview of mr1 with these changes soon... "

Although Google has yet to confirm the rumors, the expected timeline dovetails with the supposed new features of Android Nougat. Reportedly, one major improvement for the new Android platform is the way updates roll out.

Supposedly, Android Nougat will have scheduled updates already in the pipeline, so that third-party partners like tech manufacturers and mobile carriers will not have to wait long for the updates. In fact, rumors suggest that tech makers like HTC and Samsung will update their flagships to Android N before 2016 ends, just mere months after the 2016 Nexus releases. Should this prove true, the updates will be much faster than in previous Android platforms, where one of the main disadvantages is a bottleneck in the rollout schedule.
