Bad news to Nexus fans: Google Nexus 6 is sold out!

Reports claim that some enthusiastic buyers from the U.S. were unable to nab the new Nexus 6 as the device was immediately sold out within five minutes after the pre-orders started on Oct. 29.  Both the 32 GB and 64 GB variants of the new smartphone went flying off the virtual shelves.

"We are out of inventory. Please check back soon," reads the advisory in the Google Play Store.

There is no word yet from Google as to when it will replenish the stocks of the smartphone.

But although some lucky U.S. consumers were able to place their orders in the website, they will have to wait a bit longer as the smartphone will reportedly be shipped in three to four weeks.

The new Google smartphone costs $649.99 off-contract for the 32 GB model, while the 64 GB variant costs $699.99. This is a big jump from the $349.99 price tag of the LG Nexus 5 handset. However, considering all of the specs and features included in the new smartphone, the price seems reasonable.

Meanwhile, consumers who were unable to place their orders from the Google Play Store will be able buy the new handset from AT&T and Sprint as both U.S. carriers have already put up Web pages for the device. One of the advantages of buying from a carrier is one does not have to pay an expensive upfront price to get the device. Reports say that buyers can get the device for an upfront price of only $50.

Moreover, Amazon and Best Buy will most likely offer the device since both retailers offer the Nexus 9 tablet. However, buyers will have to wait until the Nexus 6 appears on the shelves of carriers and retailers.

Some of he Nexus 6's key features are: 5.96-inch AMOLED display with Quad HD (1440 x 2560) resolution and a pixel density of 493 ppi; Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 SoC with a quad-core 2.7 GHz Krait 450 GPU; Adreno 420 GPU paired with 3 GB of RAM; 32 GB or 64 GB internal storage; 13 MP rear camera; and 3220 mAh battery.
