Aside from the new Google flagship smartphones, there is reportedly a new tablet on the way, which may be a refreshed Nexus 7.

According to noted tipster Evan Blass, a new slate is "on track for release before the end of the year." Though the new slate is now named, industry followers assume that this is the previously rumored Nexus 7 refresh. The speculations on Google's partner for this new lineup have also apparently hit it right on the mark, since the new slate will reportedly be made by Huawei.

Tech Radar mentions that if the tablet is released for the end of the year, it will be welcome news to Google Nexus fans. The original Nexus 7, even counting at three years since its release, is still considered as one of the most stable and great tablet model. The industry follower added that the Nexus 7's price range and above-average specs places it in the middle of the pricier Nexus 9 – which has already been discontinued – and limited-featured Google Pixel C.

However, a hint on Blass' supposed leak can also be glimpsed, as the tipster did not note that the new tablet will be under the Nexus lineup. Google may choose to brand the new 7-inch slate under its Pixel series. Just recently, it is reported that the rumored nexus 2016 flagship smartphones, co-manufactured with HTC, will be rebranded. The rumored 5-inch Sailfish will be rebranded as Pixel, while the larger 5.5-inch Marlin will be called Pixel XL.

As to how Google plans to build the new 7-inch slate, fans expect the new iteration to have flagship specs, given hints that it will carry 4GB of RAM. In addition, Huawei has handled Google flagships in the past, most recently the Nexus 6P iteration.
