Fresh from releasing its version of the Nexus, China-based Huawei seems keen to continue its partnership with tech giant Google. According to the latest speculations, Huawei wants to continue making Nexus devices, and this time will take on a refreshed Nexus 7 tablet.

According to Phone Arena, although Google has no manufacturer in mind yet for the new Nexus lineups, Huawei stands a good chance of landing a spot in the 2016 editions, particularly a new Nexus tablet. The success of the Huawei-made Google Nexus 6P (one of the first devices that rolled out with Android 6.0 pre-loaded) means that Huawei is already being considered by Google as a longtime partner.

The industry follower also states that Huawei's global standing is also a point in its favor – the company is the third largest smartphone manufacturer worldwide in terms of shipment volume.

Meanwhile, India Today says that Google may decide on a manufacturer soon, to start the ball rolling for a 2016 unveiling of the new Nexus 7. Reportedly, Google is targeting an announcement for the device at the annual I/O development conference. The 2016 event has no specific date yet but may occur in either May or June.

There are no confirmed details yet for the new Nexus 7's specs, but it will most likely retain its 7-inch display dimension. Meanwhile, if the rumor about Huawei is proven true, the next Nexus 7 may come out powered by a homegrown Kirin chipset and running Android 6.0.

The original Nexus 7 was made by Asus and launched as a Google flagship in May 2012. It was Google's first Nexus tablet and was refreshed a year later with a new version. However, the Nexus 7 lineup was shunted aside by the Nexus 9.
