Google releases Android Oreo for Android Wear smartwatches.Google

Google has revealed the Android Wear smartwatches that will be getting their software updated to Android Oreo. The upgrade will bring a number of technical revisions to the watches, improving the devices' overall performance.

The LG Watch Sport was the first Android Wear smartwatch to be spotted with the Android Oreo operating system installed. Since then, Google has revealed four additional smartwatches that are getting the upgrade. Fossil Q Venture, Michael Kors Sofie, Montblanc Summit and Louis Vuitton Tambour are all getting the new Android 8.0 version.

With the update to Android Oreo, the smartwatches are getting notification channel support, which will give users more control over the alerts that the smartwatch apps generate.

The update also adds a battery saver feature that can be enabled in the watch's settings. The feature imposes new limitations on background processes, allowing for a longer battery life.

Android Wear users are also getting control over the vibration strength of the device's notifications. Users will also be able to manually lock the touchscreen for wet conditions.

Aside from these technical changes, the Android Wear smartwatches will be getting support for seven additional countries and languages.

Unfortunately, for owners of older models of smartwatches, there is no Oreo update available as of now.

The LG Watch R, the first Huawei Watch and the second-generation Moto 360 are not getting the update for now. However, it is possible that an update may arrive at a later time.

Some of the manufacturers that are currently pursuing the Android Wear Oreo update for their smartwatches include Casio, Diesel, Emporio Armani, Guess, Huawei, Hugo Boss, Michael Kors, Misfit, Mobvoi, Movado, Nixon, Polar, Tag Heuer, Tommy Hilfiger and ZTE Quartz.

The Android Wear Oreo arrives four months after Android Oreo for Android smartphones was unveiled by Google.
