Fans who have eagerly been waiting for the next iteration of the popular action cam from GoPro were disappointed to learn that the Hero 5's release has been delayed.

Originally, the GoPro Hero 5 was scheduled to be released later this year. The company however, announced the delay, and fans now expect to see the new action cam by next year instead.

Fans were frustrated to learn about the set back and it reflected on the company itself. It was reported by industry observers such as Business Insider that GoPro's stocks plummeted as a result of the news.

However, GoPro hopes that the upside to the delay will entice fans to wait patiently for the release next year. According to reports, GoPro is using the time to fine-tune the Hero 5 and integrate some new features into the device.

Latinos Post reported that since there has been a series of other action cams following closely the release of the Hero 4 and other GoPro lineups, the company is making sure that the next Hero will be one of the best videographic devices when it launches. Some rumors say that what GoPro will integrate into its Hero 5 action cam is almost double the resolution of the previous iteration, as well as some interesting features.

The new cam will have a 4320-pixel resolution, which makes its able to shoot Full Ultra HD images and videos in 8K resolution. Meanwhile, while shooting in a higher resolution means a drop in frame rate (resulting in spotty and "jumpy" videos), the GoPro Hero 5 will suffer none of the lags. The new cam will also have manual controls in terms of frame rates, and users can opt to shoot in 4K resolution at 60 frames per second instead.

Meanwhile, Master Herald pointed out that GoPro has also used the delay in the launch of the device to integrate a promising feature in the Hero 5. According to the report, when the action cam launches, it will be rated as waterproof for up to 60 meters deep. This means that users can take shots underwater even without a waterproof housing. However, the Hero 5 will still retain its form factor that supports underwater housing for shots of deeper than 60 meters.
