After its launch last Sept. 28 in San Francisco, the GoPro Hero 6 Black is the most performance-oriented action camera to come out of the company yet.

As revealed in many pre-release reports, the GoPro Hero 6 Black's main feature is to record 4k videos at 60 frames per second. Last year's model could only do Ultra HD resolution footages at 30 frames per second. To top it off still, the new action camera can record slow-motion footages at 2.7k set at 120 frames per second, but the feature is capped at 240 frames per second, so recording at full high definition is still achievable. With these high frame rates, thrill seekers on air, land, and water will be able to take footages that can be viewed ten times slower in high clarity and no stuttering.

The high definition images and videos that new GoPro can take is thanks to its new component that was specifically designed for it. Socionext developed and designed the GP1 custom processor with the specifications of the Hero 6 Black. With the GP1 chip, the new GoPro can easily and clearly take photos and videos in low-light surroundings, improve image quality, and offer a greater dynamic range.

For long-time GoPro users who are familiar with QuickStories, the GP1 will analyze visual scenes and sensor data for this camera app. A 5 GHz Wi-Fi is built in the Hero 6 Black that will allow users to transfer photos and videos to their smart devices with three times the speed of last year's unit. This function, together with the app will make storytelling through your Hero 6 Black a satisfying experience.

Hero 6 Black, unfortunately, looks very similar to its predecessor Hero 5 Black. It can still shoot photos at 12-megapixels (JPG or RAW), it has waterproofing for up to 33 feet, there is a GPS installed, and the touchscreen on the back is a 2-inch LCD. Lastly, the Hero 6 Black also has voice controls and instant editing features.
