Sorry, Gorillaz fans who are expecting a 2016 release to their next album, but its not going to happen this year despite your fervent wishes.

In a post by band co creator Jamie Hewlett in an Instagram post, he said that: ""[The album is] gonna be all that and more. New GORILLAZ is special, really f**kin special. Can't be rushed. 2017, yo"

Fans have been waiting for a long time for the fifth studio album – six years to be exact after their 2010 experiemental album The Fall which was recorded vis lead vocalist Damon Albarn's iPad and was done almost completely on the road.

According to Paste Magazine, the band has been working on their new album since last year so fans were expecting the new material to come out this year.

But it seems genius cannot be rushed as the artists push back the release even further in 2017.

Gorillaz, which has established itself as a visual rock band is known for its immersive visual experiences, almost never appearing in the flesh in their music videos and concerts and instead perform through holograms and other multi media representations.

The fifth album is expected to feature collaborations with Jean Michel-Jarre, English songwriter Liam Bailey and and Chicago rapper Vic Mensa which will provide the new music with a variety of influences perfectly blended together with the signature Gorillaz style.

Meanwhile, a post by Cultured Vultures hinted at what fans can expect when the much anticipated record comes out.

For one, the article confirmed the band's tendency to change their sound with every album as they shift styles with every outing. However, the post said that fans should expect the band to maintain the rock rap fusion sound like it has in all of their albums.

It also urged fans to consider Albarn's earlier description of the new album as very "upbeat, humorous and positive," as a cue for the type of music that Gorillaz will produce.
