Although reports of a new album by Gorillaz are saying that the LP is "out fairly soon," fans may have to wait a bit longer as the album will reportedly launch next year instead of the original late 2016 release.

Previously, fans thought that the rumored fresh new album from Gorillaz will come out some time this year. All supposed leaks point to a late 2016 launch as frontman Damon Albarn and artist Jamie Hewlett are joined by Vic Mensa, Liam Bailey, and Jean Michel-Jarre as collaborators. Recent interviews with the digital pop group also point to a year-end release, as Albarn was quoted in an interview saying, "Later in the year, we'll be starting to get the whole Gorillaz thing together."

However, in a recent post from a Gorillaz fan page, it was mentioned that Hewlett has been heard stating that the "really special" new LP can't be rushed, and stated that it may be out by 2017 instead.

Should this prove true, then hardcore Gorillaz fans are in for some anxious waiting. The rumored new album is a new collaboration in recent years, as the fourth LP, "The Fall" was released way back in 2011.

Meanwhile, work is steadily progressing on the yet-unnamed fifth LP. In an interview with The Guardian, rapper Pos from De La Soul stated that they will also be featured on the new album. However, the rapper did not say when fans can expect the album to be out. He hinted that the work is steady and the playlist is possibly already done.

Pos stated, "We actually sat down with Damon two weeks ago and he played us some of the new Gorillaz album, and it sounds amazing. He played us a track that he wants us to get off on his album so we got to get in the studio and put that down."
