Basil Karlo aka Clayface is one of the most iconic villains in Batman's rogue gallery due to his unique appearance and capabilities. The character is set to make his debut on "Gotham" season 2, adding another face to the growing list of villains on the show. Fox has now released two images giving fans their first look at the character.
The episode is set to bring in a whole group of supervillains as a report from Cinema Blend reveals Clayface (Brian McManamon) is not the only bad guy Gordon (Ben McKenzie) will have to deal with. He'll have to continue battling with the other experiments handled by Dr. Hugo Strange (B.D. Wong) such as Azrael and a revived Fish Mooney (Jada Pinkett Smith).
Of the two images released, the first image showcases Clayface with his facial skin being stretched out of proportion. He has a shocked expression on his face, hinting that this may be the first time that he discovers his shape-shifting abilities.
The second image shows Clayface being experimented on by two scientists, again with a shocked expression. Hugo Strange is seen in the photo, indicating that Clayface is indeed one of his latest experiments that he will unleash to take down Jim Gordon and Bullock (Donal Logue).
As stated by the report, Clayface in the comic books did not originally have super powers. He was once an actor who went on a killing spree when he discovered one of his films was being remade without his involvement. He then took up the moniker of "Clayface," after the name of the villain of the film.
He later returned in the comic books, taking the other Clayface actors as his allies, in a battle against Batman. He later betrayed his own allies and injected their essence onto himself, granting him his powers of shape-shifting.
In the "Batman: The Animated Series," this origin was changed where he gained his powers after being overdosed with a special cream that allows the actor to fix his scarred face, enabling him to continue acting.
Clayface will appear in "Gotham" season 2 episode 21, airing this May 16.
