Fox announced last Monday that "Gotham" has already been signed on for a full 22-episode first season.  And with more episodes coming, the list of characters who will be explored in the series continues to grow. 

Originally, Fox picked up only 16 episodes, but has decided to extend its order.  According to the Chairmen and CEOs of Fox Television Group, Dana Walden and Gary Newman, "Gotham" premiered as an impressive show comprised of realistic characters that significantly appeal to its audiences using a unique approach, all thanks to the show's executive producers, Bruno Heller and Danny Cannon.

"'Gotham' debuted as one of the most buzzed-about shows of the fall, and with good reason," Walden and Newman stated. "Bruno Heller and Danny Cannon have created an incredibly rich world, with characters that draw you in and a cast that brings life to these heroes and villains in a way we've never seen before."

The big bosses also expressed their excitement toward the unfolding of the story as "Gotham" continues on until its last episode for the first season.

"We are so excited to see where Bruno, Danny and the entire 'Gotham' team take this story over the course of this season, and so thankful to all the fans who have embraced it this fall."

Gotham City will be welcoming new characters further on in the series, including a handful of antagonists.  Dr. Leslie Thompkins is also expected to join the show, as pointed out by Cannon in an interview with IGN. Thompkins was first introduced in the comics as a good friend of Bruce Wayne's father and becomes a mother figure to Bruce.

"At a very tough time in Jim's life, he will meet Leslie Thompkins," Cannon explained.

"Gotham" currently airs every Monday at 8 p.m. on Fox.
