The Wizard World Comic Con is currently underway in Chicago and during the panel for "Gotham," actor Ben McKenzie, who plays a younger Jim Gordon, was asked when the show might finally feature Bruce Wayne, currently played by David Mazouz, donning the costume of Batman.

ComicBook was able to film the panel where McKenzie gave a short but definitive answer. He said, "The last frame of the last shot of the last scene of the last episode of Gotham, whatever season that may be, is Bruce putting on that cape."

There is no concrete plan at the moment for how long "Gotham" will be on air as its ratings are doing pretty average thus far, getting just high enough to warrant a second season. However, McKenzie's statements confirm that whenever the show is ending, that will be the only time that Batman will make an official appearance.

This will be very similar to what fans saw in the critically acclaimed series "Smallville." The series chronicled the life of Clark Kent, then played by Tom Welling, before he officially became Superman. "Smallville" was able to bring in other superheroes and even faced off against Superman's enemies, but Welling only donned the Superman costume at the series finale.

According to a report from Cinema Blend, this decision is how the show should be. "Gotham" is meant to be a precursor to the stories that involve Batman and his fight against crime. It is a show where Jim Gordon is the lead as he fights crime and makes his way up to become Commissioner of the Gotham Police Department.

ComicBookMovie reports that if "Gotham" continues to do well and naturally reaches its ending, then it may lead to a spin-off that focuses on Batman/ Bruce Wayne as an adult although nothing is conclusive, particularly at this point where the series has only just reached its second season.

"Gotham" season 2 will premiere on Monday, Sept. 21.
