After a long winter hiatus, "Gotham" will return with new villains who are expected to freeze the city when the series returns for the second half of season 2.

Spoilers for the episode titled "Mr. Freeze" revealed that the episode will introduce the enemy Victor Fries (guest star Nathan Darrow), one of the distinguished cryogenics engineers who turned into an evil villain after his experiment to save his wife's life went awry. The incident turned him into Mr. Freeze.

Jim Gordon (Ben McKenzie) and Harvey Bullock (Donal Logue) will spend a lot of time running after Dr. Fries in the next episode, after the Gotham City police department got hold of reports saying that the doctor was involved in a body-snatching spree.

But Mr. Freeze will not be the only villain in this episode. Based on the promo images that were released by Fox, the young professor from Arkham Asylum named Hugo Strange (B.D. Wong) will appear on the show when the series returns on Monday.

According to the spoilers for the episode, Hugo Strange will be involved in several illegal and untried activities at Indian Hill, the secret underground department of Wayne Enterprises that deals with inhumane tests intended for people who possess super powers. He is also said to be involved in sequestering corpses from the city morgue.

"Gotham" showrunner Bruno Heller told TV Guide in late 2015 that Dr. Strange's appearance will deeply affect Penguin when the series returns for the second half of season 2.

"Dr. Hugo Strange has a profound effect on Penguin," Heller shared. "He makes a new man of him in many ways." However, Heller did not reveal how Penguin/Oswald Cobblepot (Robin Lord Taylor) and Dr. Strange will interact in the upcoming episodes of the series.

"Gotham" season 2 returns on Monday, Feb. 29, on Fox.
