'Gotham' season 2 premiere date; villains confirmed to appear in new episodes

FOX's "Gotham" season 1 will come to an end next week and everyone is already talking about what's next after that. There are questions if a second season has already been confirmed, and if so, what are the things to look forward to in season 2.

As early as Jan. 17, FOX already ordered a new season of "Gotham," but the number of episodes remains uncertain. Season 1 stared with only 16 episodes and FOX ordered 7 more. With the sophomore run, there's a good chance that it could be 23 episodes as well.

Meanwhile, Jada Pinkett-Smith, who plays Fish Mooney in the series, has confirmed that she only had a year's worth of contract. But because her acting has been brilliant throughout the first season, many are hoping for her return, including showrunner Bruce Heller.

"Personally I'm still hoping that Jada will be back," Heller told Segment Next. "One of the problems of making a show like this is that you need actors who can really be big characters. You either have bigness or you don't, and Jada is big in spades. She's done a wonderful job for us and nobody dies forever in the DC Universe, necessarily, so I'm hoping whatever happens at the end of this season that Fish can and will be back."

Another mystery is the list of villains to appear in season 2. Clayface and the Mad Hatter will be there. According to Comic Vine, Clayface has eight possible personas that the writer can write about, but each persona has a shape-shifting ability. As for the Mad Hatter, he is a tech genius who can create inventions to control people's minds. Other villains that may join season 2 are Mr. Freeze, Jerome/ the Joker.

"Gotham" will return but there's no official release date yet.
