The cast for "Gotham" season 2 is expanding and dwindling at the same time. After adding new baddies and good guys to the fold, the series might not be showing much of two major cast members this season.

TV Line has word that Victoria Cartagena and Andrew Stewart-Jones, who play detectives Renee Montoya and Crispus Allen, are no longer series regulars. They will appear at some point in the new season but not as often as they did in the show's freshman run. Screen Crush notes that this was bound to happen, with the duo almost not showing up in the second half of season 1.

Despite these demotions, "Gotham" season 2 have more characters to feature, as Butch Gilzean, Lucius Fox, Harvey Dent and Dr. Leslie Thompkins are all getting more screen time in the new season. More Batman baddies and comic books staples are making their entrance as well. The list includes Clayface, Mad Hatter, Mr. Freeze, Hugo Strange, Tommy Elliot and likely the Court of Owls.

Silver St. Cloud is coming, with Natalie Alyn Lind to play the role. James Frain will portray St. Cloud's uncle Theo Galavan while Jessica Lucas was cast as Galavan's sister (and future Tigress) Tabitha. Michael Chiklis will appear as Captain Nathaniel Barnes while Dustin Ybarra will be the show's resident killer cannibal.

Meanwhile, lunacy seems to be the main theme in "Gotham" season 2. A new international spot for the DC Comics series adaptation shows the Lunatics taking over the Arkham Asylum — by violent means, of course. That said, things are going to get gorier in the new season.

One focus in the new preview is Jerome, who media outlets think is The Joker in the making. While all signs point to the character becoming the clown-clad madman's small screen counterpart, complete with the sharp stares and mannerisms, the unpredictability of the show can change all that.

"Gotham" season 2 will premiere Sept. 21.
