Will "Gotham" pull a "Game of Thrones" act when it returns for the second half of the season?

During the midseason finale of "Gotham" season 2, Jerome Valeska (Cameron Monaghan) was killed by Theo Galavan (James Frain) after he staged a hostage crisis during the Gotham Children's Hospital Gala. But fans of the show were not expecting to see him dead this early in the series because many believed that he will turn into The Joker in the future.

However, a theory posted on ComicBook.com said that there could be a possibility that Jerome did not die at all.

According to the theory, Jerome might be alive since The Joker was known to have escaped death a number of times. The theory also claimed that Jerome's persona was cloaked in magic because his father was a blind fortune teller.

If the theory is to be believed, the creepy sociopath could have learned how to escape death by faking it when he was still working with his father in the carnival.

Another theory that could prove that Jerome is still alive claims that Theo faked Jerome's death through the help of medical examiners. Theo could have got Jerome's wounded body so he can use him as part of the Order of St. Dumas.

However, Fox has yet to confirm if any of the theories is valid.

Meanwhile, the second half of "Gotham" season 2 will also feature the introduction of a new villain named Victor Fries, also known as Mr. Freeze.

According to "House of Cards" star Nathan Darrow, who will portray the role of Fries/Mr. Freeze in the series, the best thing about the character is his determination to find a cure for the terminal illness of his wife.

"In some of the research I did on the character as he has evolved in the comic book, he has a more tenuous connection with humanity and his own humanity, and she's it," the actor said in an interview with USA Today. "He is applying all his talents and skills and energies to maintaining that."

"Gotham" season 2 returns Feb. 29 on Fox.
