'Gotham' season 2 episode 19 spoilers - Gordon and Bruce battle Azrael

Fox TV

"Gotham" season 2 has revealed that Doctor Hugo Strange (B.D. Wong) is responsible for ordering the hit against Bruce Wayne's (David Mazouz) parents and now both Gordon (Ben McKenzie) and the young Wayne are heading to confront Strange regarding the mysteries of Project Chimera. In order to stop them, Strange sends out his new soldier, Azrael.

The previous episode revealed that Azrael was none other than former Gotham City mayor Theo Galavan (James Frain). Unlike the comic book version of Azrael, this character is not a successor to the Batman and is instead a special experiment of Hugo Strange, brainwashed with the dogma of the Order of St. Dumas used on him repeatedly.

According to the synopsis from TV Guide, the episode will see Azrael pick up the replica sword of St. Dumas and hunt down Gordon. However, Gordon won't be getting any help from the department as no one believes the story about Hugo Strange or his strange experiments to resurrect the dead.

Early reviews from JoBlo reveal that Azrael will kill multiple bystanders as he continues hunting for Gordon. Despite the GCPD refusing to believe in Gordon's story they still push forward with a plan to use Gordon as bait. Azrael will arrive and a shoot-out occurs on the roof. Barnes (Michael Chiklis) discovers Azrael's identity but is stabbed to death.

Tabitha (Jessica Lucas) will also discover that her brother Theo is alive and Bruce will discover this truth as well. Penguin (Robin Taylor) will be the only one pleased with the revelation as he figures this gives him a second chance at avenging the death of his mother.

The synopsis reveals that a separate plotline will develop regarding Edward Nygma (Cory Michael Smith) in prison. It is speculated that Nygma will later take over Hugo Strange's operations if the latter is killed off or put to prison by the end of season 2, setting up Nygma as the Riddler for season 3.

"Gotham" season 2 episode 19 airs this May 2.
