Jerome (Cameron Monaghan) aka the future Joker and several others will escape from the asylum in the upcoming season of Fox's "Gotham."

In the promo released by the network, the villains will be able to getaway from Arkham with the help of Tabitha Galavan (Jessica Lucas). Cinemablend reports that Joker will be leading the bunch of misfits towards Gotham, where they can do more damage. The cackling felon will also be seen donning an officer's uniform and causing a riot inside the police department.

While Joker is busy with his captive audience, Oswald Cobblepot (Robin Lord Taylor) aka The Penguin is busy polishing his golden throne. With the other anti-heroes dead, missing or imprisoned, he is now considered the leader of misdemeanor in the city.

Jim Gordon's (Ben McKenzie) ex-fiancée has also joined the dark side after getting corrupted by the Ogre last season. She is now part of Jerome's entourage who will make sure that there will be no shortage of crimes in Gotham. The website also mentioned other villains who will bring their own brand of chaos. The list includes Clayface, Mr. Freeze, Hugo, Mad Hatter, Calendar Man, and Firefly.

As for the Gotham City Police Department (GCPD), the operatives' hands will be full trying to defend the citizens from the bad guys. Edward Nygma (Cory Michael Smith) is still with the department. Last season was hard for him, considering he lost his mind. Will he be able to give his hundred percent for the job this time? And what about Gordon? What kind of strategy will he use to make sure that Gotham remains safe from the rise of the villains?

Speaking of Gordon, McKenzie told Entertainment Weekly that season 2 would be a lot better than the first installment. He said that their fault was in not letting the narrative allow the villains "to connect with the viewers."

"I think we made a mistake relatively early on in trying to introduce a villain and take care of that villain in one episode: catch them, send them to Arkham, do whatever. The audience really wants to understand who these people are and live with them, sit with them and enjoy them," he explained.

The also actor said that season 2 would "really kick ass" and "exactly what the fans want to see."

"Gotham" season 2 will premiere on Sept. 21 on Fox.
