The citizens of "Gotham" should prepare for the worst as the city falls into a deep freeze in the spring premiere of season 2 of the hit FOX series.

The promo released for episode 12 shows a panoramic view of Jim Gordon (Ben McKenzie) and Bruce Wayne's (David Mazouz) city. Inch by inch, the entire place is slowly being covered with ice. The teaser is to announce that the legendary DC villain Dr. Victor Fries aka Mr. Freeze is about to set foot on Gotham and bring his own brand of terror. The baddie was briefly seen during the winter finale. When season 2 returns, however, viewers can expect that his story will be the focus for both episodes 12 and 13. FOX has tapped "House of Cards" Nathan Darrow to play the part.

Mr. Freeze is described as one of the city's leading cryogenic engineers until the accident that turned him into someone who could only exist in subzero temperatures. When his wife, Nora, fell ill due to a fatal disease, he put her in a suspended animation, in which her body was frozen until Mr. Freeze could figure out a cure for her condition. GothCorp's CEO Ferris Boyle refused to fund his work and he was also the one who inadvertently caused the irreversible transformation in Dr. Fries. The villain feels that Bruce is also to be blamed for what happened to him that is why he is tracking him down to get revenge.

Aside from Mr. Freeze, season 2B will also play host to a new batch of bad guys. Dr. Hugo Strange, who will be played by BD Wong, is set to cause chaos in Gotham. During the first half of the current installment, viewers saw the bodies of Theo Galavan (James Frain), Barabara (Erin Richards), and others being transported to a laboratory. The place turns out to be Dr. Strange's sanctum sanctorum, where he performs inhuman experiments.

The International Business Times reports that Calendar Man and crime group Court of Owls will also be shown in the series soon. The latter will reportedly take the place of Galavan and the Sacred Order of Saint Dumas in terrorizing the city. Court of Owls abducts children then train them to become Talons, the group's assassins.

"Gotham" season 2 will return on Monday, Feb. 29, at 8 p.m. EST on FOX.
