Almost nine episodes into "Gotham" season 4 and so far, it is not quite clear where some characters are headed. So, it goes without saying that episode 10 will be quite a surprise for fans, especially knowing how the storylines have been playing out.

The official synopsis for "Gotham" season 4 episode 10, titled "Things That Go Boom," reveals that Jim Gordon (Ben McKenzie) will try to cut a deal with Penguin (Robin Lord Taylor) that involves Sofia Falcone (Crystal Reed). Jim and Penguin sort of already have an idea that Crystal has them wrapped around her finger. Could this deal involve cutting ties with her?

Fans know that Sofia was the one who pushed for Jim's promotion to captain of the Gotham City Police Department, and she also provided a boost in Penguin's status as the city's crime kingpin. It is not hard to see both men turn on her as they have already turned on each other in some form. Jim also has to deal with his strained friendship with Harvey Bullock (Donal Logue) after the events of the previous episodes.

In the meantime, Alfred Pennyworth (Sean Pertwee) will try to pull Bruce Wayne (David Mazouz) out of his teenage-angst and downward spiral. It is safe to say that Bruce certainly went off the deep end in the early episodes of the season, from witnessing the murder of a friend to breaking the one vow he made to himself and the code that Batman will also later on live by. He channeled the anger he felt by partying in a club he bought and by downing one drink after another.

Bruce, for most of the last three years, bore a big burden. From the murder of his parents to the events that transpired in the previous season, it was only fitting that he would want to let loose. He is still a teenager after all, and he also feels the pangs of adolescence just like any other teen would. However, there is a fine line between trying to blow off some steam and continuously partying to the extent that he might put himself at risk.

Bruce knows how to fight after all. Should someone deliberately or accidentally do him wrong, there is a chance he could beat them up and get them seriously hurt. This is where Alfred steps in, to make him snap out of this phase he is going through.

Meanwhile, Lee Thompkins (Morena Baccarin) continues to gain more control in the Narrows. She has taken another step into what she will be doing in the future, setting up a clinic in this part of Gotham where she could take care of the sick and poor. However, after the little encounter with the sirens and Firefly (Camila Perez), she finds herself becoming the leader of this part of town.

It is known that she will form a sort of unlikely bond with Ed Nygma (Cory Michael Smith) and Solomon Grundy (Drew Powell). Knowing that Penguin is out for Nygma's blood, could Lee step in and protect him? It certainly seems to be the case.

"Gotham" season 4 airs Thursdays at 9 p.m. EST on FOX.
