'Gotham' season 4 news: Where will characters be headed? Professor Pyg on the hunt for 'pigs'

Unlikely partnerships and difficult decisions have been made in five episodes of "Gotham" season 4. From where things are so far in the series, it does pose a question as to where things are headed later on in the season.

Bruce Wayne (David Mazouz) has now started his vigilante watch, which everyone was hoping would somehow happen in the previous season with a bulletproof suit made for him by Lucius Fox (Chris Chalk). Under Alfred's (Sean Pertwee) tutelage, Bruce has also managed to start developing the billionaire playboy persona, which was pretty evident during the auction in the previous episodes.

He now has his no-kill vow as well, formed after that encounter with the Joker-esque Jerome (Cameron Monaghan) in the hall of mirrors. However, the previous episodes have made him see the consequences of his decisions to do good, as well as putting his No-Kill rule to the test.

Last episode saw not only the rise of Solomon Grundy (Drew Powell) but his unlikely team-up with Edward Nygma (Cory Michael Smith), who is trying to regain his Riddler persona after being frozen for months. Viewers knows that when Grundy was still the mobster Butch Gilzean, he was not exactly on the best of terms with Nygma, something which Nygma sort of mentions when he sees Grundy for the first time.

There is also something going on between Oswald Cobblepot (Robin Lord Taylor) and Sofia Falcone (Crystal Reed). Oswald is in control of the criminal underworld, and Sofia is hoping to take the city back and regain her father's empire. Oswald may think that he is steps ahead of Sofia, killing off the mobsters that remain loyal to the Falcone family, but he seems to have overestimated her, which is probably what she is hoping to get him to do.

The previous five episodes have brought in the Scarecrow (Charlie Tahan) and R'as, and the upcoming episode will mark the introduction of another disturbing rogue. This is none other than Professor Pyg (Michael Cerveris). According to USA Today, Cerveris describes his character as "a brilliant and chameleon-like person who has a highly developed sense of what is right and wrong." Although, his views of what is right and wrong does not exactly match with everyone else's.

Surprisingly, Professor Pyg is not exactly going to terrorize Jim Gordon (Ben McKenzie) – directly that is. He comes to Gotham city to bump off "pigs" or rather, cops whom he thinks are corrupt. Knowing that almost everyone in the GCPD is on Oswald's payroll, Professor Pyg is pretty much going after everyone except Jim, whom he sees as a kindred spirit.

Yet, the villain's motives will change in every episode, according to the show's executive producer John Stephens. His character will be fleshed out even more as the season goes on, leading to a very terrifying reveal.

"Gotham" season 4 will air on Thursday at 8 p.m. EDT on FOX.
