'Gotham' season 4 spoilers, cast news: The Scarecrow to return with new actor? Character breakdown surfaces

Charlie Tahan as the Scarecrow in "Gotham"Fox

"Gotham" season 4 is bringing back Scarecrow, but it may not be with the same actor fans have become familiar with. A new report is claiming that the show is recasting the character for reappearance later this season.

Early last month, TV Line reported that "Gotham" is quietly looking to bring in a new face for the role of the masked villain, originally portrayed by Charlie Tahan. Now, evidence has surfaced all but confirming the claim.

That Hashtag Show got their hands on a season 4 character description for the Scarecrow. It indicates which episodes he will reappear, but the intriguing part is that it also includes broad details on the actor, making it look like a casting call.

"[JONATHAN CRANE] Male, Early to Mid 20s. Caucasian. After being dosed with a fear toxin developed by his late father, Jonathan Crane was paralyzed by fear, until he learned to turn that fear on others. Dressing up as a scarecrow, he now uses home-made fear toxin to terrorize Gotham. Erratic, terrifying, and psychopathic, he no longer identifies as "Jonathan Crane," preferring to go by his true name — "Scarecrow".... RECURRING GUEST STAR, ALSO APPEARS IN EPISODE 417 & EPISODE 418"

Assuming the character will indeed be recast, he would not be the first "Gotham" character to be portrayed by different actors. The show has already done it twice with Poison Ivy.

As recalled, Clare Foley originally played the character but was replaced by Maggie Geha following the show's decision to age the character. The last time fans saw her, she was drinking a secret formula to make her more powerful. She has not made her return yet, but when she does, it has been confirmed she will be portrayed by Peyton List.

It looks like the show will also use the same explanation for Crane's transformation as he was also dunked in strange chemicals previously. Fans will have to wait and see.

"Gotham" will return for the second half of season 4 sometime in 2018 with "Pieces of a Broken Mirror" on FOX.
