One of the most anticipated games that have been the subject of countless rumors in the past few months is the next installment in the popular "Grand Theft Auto" franchise, "Grand Theft Auto 6." While there have been no official announcements from Rockstar Games or its parent company Take-Two Interactive, fans are still adamant in the notion that the sequel is indeed coming.

However, several reports have claimed otherwise and mentions that there might still be a long wait until "Grand Theft Auto 6" comes out.

As of the moment, the current "Grand Theft Auto 5" video game and its online component — "Grand Theft Auto Online" — are still making the companies a huge amount of money, as "Grand Theft Auto 5" alone made the company $700 million in revenue in the past twelve months. Despite already being a few years old, the game still attracts a lot of gamers to it, which means that its developers might not be replacing it with a sequel just yet.

The game itself had just received its latest downloadable content (DLC) expansion pack called "Bikers" which added a slew of new content including new vehicles, biker gear, and a new melee feature. The DLC has managed to attract even more players to the game, which is another reason why a sequel might not be coming out anytime soon.

For now, there is still isn't any indication that the sequel is in fact in development and the latest rumor reports have pegged its release to be still quite far off. According to reports, "Grand Theft Auto 6" might see the light of day sometime in 2018 or even as far as 2020.

The companies will eventually need to release a sequel, given that the pace of technology is continually marching forward. The game has to be updated with a new version to take advantage of this and in order for the franchise not to get left behind.
