'Grand Theft Auto Online' rumor: Multiplayer to have surprise Christmas update?

Grand Theft Auto V

Rockstar Games just rolled out new DLC for the online multiplayer feature of "Grand Theft Auto V." However, rumors have been floating online that another surprise, Christmas-themed expansion is just around the corner for "GTA Online" players.

According to Express UK, some fans of the franchise have apparently come across some leaked screenshots, and the images are said to be of new items that Rockstar Games will introduce as part of a holiday pack. The screenshots include Christmas-themed items such as Christmas trees and Santa outfits, as well as new masks with likenesses to the Gingerbread Man and Abominable Snowman, a Christmas turkey, and tree masks.

The news site also mentioned that part of the supposed update is a classic car coming back to Los Santos. Reportedly, one of the new vehicles for the holidays will be The Tampa, which was a muscle car last seen in the "GTA San Andreas" game.

Rockstar Games has yet to confirm the details, or announce if the company will indeed be launching another update just days after the recent one.

The most recent update for "Grand Theft Auto Online" is the Executives and Other Criminals DLC. The new expansion now allows players to create their own criminal organization with VIP status, and hire other players to act as bodyguards. The bodyguards receive regular paychecks as well as bonus reputation and stat boosts. For the player boss, the new DLC unlocks a number of new luxury items and properties.

To highlight the release of the new DLC, Rockstar Games is currently holding an event weekend for players, with double rewards for in-game dollars and reputation points for playing Adversary modes. There is also an ongoing discounts spree for different items, weapons, gears, and vehicles. There will also be an in-game event sweepstakes with VIP gear as prizes.

The event weekend will end on Dec. 20.
