'Grand Theft Auto V' sells over 85 million copies, breaks game sales records
"Grand Thef Auto V" was released in 2013 for the Playstation 3 and 4, Xbox 360, Xbox One, and PC. The game did well and was a hit among GTA fans upon release. Four years have passed, and the game's popularity has continued to soar. Earlier in November of 2017, it was announced on several video game and news sites that "GTA V" had sold over 85 million copies since its release.
"GTA V" surpassed the sales figures for the popular Wii sports game and is reportedly the best-selling game, not just for the PlayStation consoles or for the US, but of all time. Selling over 85 million copies of their game, "GTA V" has broken a major video game sales record.
Video game Company Take-Two Interactive Software's CEO Strauss Zelnick had an interview with Consumer News and Business Channel (CNBC) about the "GTA V" sales.
Zelnick was surprised by the outcome and stated that GTA online was faring just as well. "We've sold in 85 million units and we're having another record year with Grand Theft Auto Online which, as you know, is not our expectation. Four years after initial release, the audience is growing and people love it more than ever," Zelnick said.
Players are flocking to "GTA V," and judging by the numbers, it looks like this trend will continue for a good while. Many of the people praising "GTA V" say that the reason it's still so popular after four years, is because of free updates and good content that's constantly being added to the multiplayer game modes. There are always new things to do, and new events to participate in.
An example of this is the Halloween event that was released earlier in October. The event came with a new Condemned Mode where players had to participate in grisly battles to the death with other players. Aside from that, the Halloween event also gave players the chance to win in-game cash.
The game is constantly churning out new content for its players, something that's sure to keep people interested.
