After all the painful events that happened in the previous season of Shonda Rhimes' "Grey's Anatomy," a new teaser for the premiere episode of season 12 seems to suggest that the show is going for a lighter approach.

In the teaser for the premiere episode titled "Sledgehammer" shared by E! News, Meredith Grey (Ellen Pompeo) appears to have no time to grieve for her late husband Derek (Patrick Dempsey) as she is kept busy by her new housemates, half-sister Maggie Pierce (Kelly McCreary) and sister-in-law Amelia Shepherd (Caterina Scorsone).

The new housemates seem to be having a hard time with their new living arrangement. In the trailer, Meredith's sleep is disturbed by the loud banging noise. When she rushes downstairs, she sees Amelia tearing a hole in a wall with a sledgehammer. Meredith asks Amelia what she is doing, and Derek's sister replies that she is trying to make their house look bigger.

Then Maggie is seen going back-and-forth between Meredith and Amelia, who have started quarreling. Meredith seems to be regretting her decision to take Derek's sister in her home.

"Why don't I learn? I take in strays because they're sad and lonely and homeless," Meredith tells Maggie. "The truth is, strays are flea-ridden creatures who pee on your stuff."

Series creator Rhimes earlier discussed the dynamics among the three women in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter.

"Right now it's very funny. Those three women are very different and don't have very much in common, which is fantastic," Rhimes shared. "Meredith needs support right now and she is related to them so it's not the same as when she was living with Izzie (Katherine Heigl) and George (T.R. Knight) and liked them. She doesn't necessarily need to like them to love them and be in a house with them. It's a fascinating dynamic — it's family."

"Grey's Anatomy" season 12 premieres Sept. 24, 8 p.m. on ABC. But those who can't watch in on TV can still catch the episode via live stream on ABC.com
