'Grey's Anatomy' season 12 spoilers, plot rumors: Shonda Rhimes reveals new love interests for Callie, Arizona, and Maggie

New loves for former married couple Callie Torres (Sara Ramirez) and Arizona Robbins (Jessica Capshaw) in Grey's Anatomy season 12.ABC

"Grey's Anatomy" season 11 might have ended on a sad note, but not all the doctors in the long-running medical drama will have lonely hearts when the show returns for its 12th season.

During the previous season, some of the doctors at the Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital suffered from devastating relationship woes. Meredith Grey (Ellen Pompeo) lost her husband Derek Shepherd (Patrick Dempsey) because of a tragic car accident, and Jackson Avery and April Kepner's tragedy of losing their first-born son just days after his birth put a huge strain in their relationship. But while Arizona Robbins (Jessica Capshaw) and Callie Torres (Sara Ramirez) decided to end their marriage, it does not mean that they will not have happy hearts in season 12.

TV Line reported that the former couple will start dating other people next season. According to series creator Shonda Rhimes, the former lovers will meet new characters, and they will both date women. This is not surprising for Arizona, who is known for being a lesbian since she was first introduced in the series. Meanwhile, Callie's new relationship with another woman will establish her being bisexual.

"I do want to honor the fact that Callie is bisexual, and we've established that she's dated guys. But in terms of where she's going now, she's going to be dating a woman," Rhimes stated.

Meanwhile, actress Kelly McCreary also revealed that her character Maggie Pierce will be literally closer to her half sister Meredith, since she will begin living with her and Derek's sister Amelia (Caterina Scorsone) at their mother Ellis Grey's house. But although Maggie enjoys living with her half sister, it could still cause a little conflict between the two.

"There will definitely be some conflict, but of the hilarious variety as opposed to the sisters-pulling-each-other's-hair-out variety. You can expect some 'clashes of the titans' going on," McCreary said.

The actress also revealed that there are also plans to deal with Maggie's love life next season.

"Grey's Anatomy" season 12 will premiere on Sept. 24.
