Fans were stunned when Meredith's (Ellen Pompeo) bloody visage was shown in the "Thank God It's Thursday" (TGIT) promo for "Grey's Anatomy" season 12B. Little else was shown to explain what happened to her, except that it was life threatening enough. During the recently concluded Winter Press Tour of ABC, the cast shed some light regarding Meredith's predicament in the upcoming second half.

Entertainment Weekly reports that she has been attacked by someone viewers would least expect. Kelly McCreary, who plays Maggie in the series, shared this interesting tidbit. Meredith, she shared, was attacked so brutally, it would leave her scared for a long time. She said the teaser gave justice to the storyline, as it was "terrifying, shocking and harrowing" as it appeared.

In the past seasons, Pompeo's character has suffered a lot. Her most recent heartache was the death of her husband Derek (Patrick Dempsey). Amidst all of the pain she holds in her heart, she has remained a survivor literally and figuratively. Fans will remember that Meredith lived through several death-defying incidents like the plane crash and bomb explosion in the past. This time, though, the experience would terrify her in ways she has never felt before.

Meanwhile, the entire hospital will reportedly rally to save her life. James Pickens Jr., who plays Dr. Weber, revealed that her fate would lie in the hands of her Grey Sloan family. According to him, the terrifying accident would unify the surgeons like never before and make them set aside their differences to help a person dear to them.

"It makes us realize how much of a family Seattle Grace really is and how in times of trauma and times of turmoil, how you come together for the common good. In this case, it's saving her life basically," the actor told E! Online.

"Grey's Anatomy" season 12 will return on Thursday, Feb. 11, at 8 p.m. EST on ABC.
