Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) is falling for Nathan Riggs (Martin Henderson), and her secret fling with him could mean trouble for her and her half-sister Maggie (Kelly McCreary). Alex (Justin Chambers) has confessed to beating Andrew DeLuca (Giacomo Gianniotti) and sending him straight to the hospital, and the two face each other in court.

In "Grey's Anatomy," Riggs is unknowingly caught in a love triangle between Meredith and Maggie. Although Meredith has fallen a little too deep in her fling with Riggs, she chose to put Maggie first by telling Riggs that she doesn't feel anything for him. This was triggered when Maggie got mad at Meredith for not telling her about Alex being the one who beat up DeLuca, and said that they should start being honest with each other no matter what. Afraid that it might affect her relationship with Maggie, Meredith tries to avoid admitting her fling with Riggs, the one guy that her sister is developing serious feelings for.

It is speculated that Meredith and Riggs' relationship comes out in the open in this season's second episode titled, "Catastrophe and the Cure." In the sneak peak for episode 2, Meredith secretly talks to Riggs about Maggie's plans to ask him out. She tells Riggs to politely say no, but the reason why is unclear.

Is she doing it to save Maggie from heartbreak? Or is it because she wants to be with Riggs?

When the news of Meredith and Riggs does break out, Maggie will be put in a situation where she will have to choose between the two of them. McReary told TV Line in an interview, "I guess the question is, does she value her relationship with Meredith more than she values her desire to find love, and does she believe that Riggs is the right match for her?"

Meanwhile, Alex faces DeLuca in court for assault charges. The doctors of Grey Sloan will definitely be divided into two, and there's a high chance that Alex might be convicted of a felony. Meredith will try to sway DeLuca to go easy on Alex, but receives a beatdown of her own when DeLuca tells her that he's not going to be threatened just because she's an attending.

"Grey's Anatomy" season 13 airs Thursdays at 8 p.m. EDT on ABC.
