Sara Ramirez left "Grey's Anatomy" in 2016. After playing the role of Dr. Callie Torres for 10 years, the 42-year-old star revealed she has no regrets in leaving the ABC television series, although there are talks of her possible return.

It was a surprise for everyone, especially for creator Shonda Rhimes, that the American-Mexican actress decided to quit the show. But in an interview with Entertainment Weekly, she revealed that it was the right thing to do.

"It has been a really full year and a half," Ramirez told EW. The "You've Got Mail" star narrated being away in the limelight gave her space for herself and know the things that are more important to her. She also added coming out in the open came as a natural decision as it made her spent more "energy and time making."

"It was incremental, not a spur-of-the-moment decision," she said. However, Ramirez is not yet closing her doors and still open for the possibility of returning to "Grey's Anatomy." In fact, Rhimes is also fond of the idea.

Ryan DeBolt's wife revealed when she last spoke with Rhimes that they both agreed to keep their lines open. However, the show's executive producer and director Debbie Allen told TVLine in August they have no plans about Callie's return so far. "We love her and we miss her, [but] there's been no discussion of it," she said.

To recall, Ramirez was last seen in "Grey's Anatomy" season 12's final episode when Callie revealed she will be moving to New York. In a tweet, she bid her official farewell, saying she is truly grateful for the past 10 years she had spent with her family in the series and the network, ABC.

However, it was the right time for her to take a "time off." She even commended Rhimes for being a great person to work with and they would never put an end to their conversations.

"Grey's Anatomy" season 14 is now in a midseason break and will return on Monday, Jan. 8, on ABC.
