'Grimm' season 5 spoilers, plot: Captain Renard to keep Wesen underbelly in control in show's 'darker' season

NBC

Fans need to prepare for an ultimate throwback when "Grimm" returns for season 5.

After going through several drastic changes at the end of the fourth season, David Giuntoli's character Nick Burkhardt is understandably in a dark place. Giuntoli shared that after Nick's mother was beheaded by his girlfriend Juliette (Bitsie Tulloch) and she was killed by his protégé when she was attacking him, the dynamics in the upcoming season will change as well.

From being an ordinary cop to embracing his natural gift as a Grimm, Nick will now be in a vengeful mood as he tries to find out who caused all the horrible things that happened to him, all while preparing to be a father to his child with Adalind (Claire Coffee).

Meanwhile, actor Sasha Roiz, known as police captain Sean Renard in the series, said that "Grimm" will revisit its roots to get back on track.

"We talked about this 'reboot' ... like I think after a few seasons you get off track a little bit which is normal for any show. You go in every direction and you test things out," the actor shared with Showbiz Junkies during the 2015 San Diego Comic-Con. "Some things work and some things don't work. And now you kind of revisit season one and go, 'What was it originally that we were aiming to do?' I think that there's a lot of that return to season one."

Roiz also said that Renard will try to gain control of things as crooked Wesen creatures continue to appear. According to the actor, Portland will turn a little darker this season.

"Nick's turning darker. We've lost Juliette. It's going to affect everybody, I think, in a very interesting way," Roiz shared.

"Grimm" season 5 premieres with the episode titled "The Grimm Identity" on Friday, Oct. 30, on NBC.
