"Grimm" has been officially renewed for season 6, but along with the confirmation, NBC has also announced that the series is finally ending. As reported by Variety, the final season will have a total of 13 episodes and will finally see Nick (David Giuntolli) go up against Captain Renard (Sasha Roiz). 

According to the report, Renard has been given the seat of power now that he is the mayor-elect of Portland. Nick is also stated to be allying with all his former friends in order to protect the city, particularly his child and Adalind (Claire Coffee). Renard's exact plans are still a mystery however and anyone could still be in danger.

Monroe (Silas Weir Mitchell) and Rosalee (Bree Turner) are also stated to be struggling with the fact that they will be having a child in such a dangerous world. Eve (Bitsie Tuloch), on the other hand, will be struggling with the fact that her former self is still felt within her causing her to continue doubting her identity.

Variety reports that "Grimm" has steadily kept an average viewership rating of 6 to 8 million viewers from its first season, despite the fact that it had shifted time slots numerous times throughout its run.

While NBC has not stated why the show is being cancelled many fans believe it to be due to the drop in viewership ratings for season 5, which saw just barely above 6 million viewers per episode and is the lowest-rated season for the show.

Cinema Blend does point out that the show gains an aditional 2.4 million viewers on delayed showings indicating that many are interested but cannot watch the show when it is initially aired on the network. Because of this many fans are aiming to launch a petition to get the show renewed for future seasons on Netflix.

"Grimm" season 6 will premiere on NBC this Jan. 6.
