'GTA 6' release date, gameplay rumors: Upcoming Rockstar game might be launched in 2020

Fans may need to wait for a few more years before the anticipated "GTA 6" is released.

"GTA 6" continues to be one of the hottest topics in the gaming industry, but developer Rockstar is still silent about the upcoming game's release. With Rockstar currently working the release of "Red Dead Redemption 2" this October, recent rumors claim "GTA 6" will not be arriving anytime soon.

Release date

Since there's still no official word on the game's launch date, fans are just relying on what the experts have to say. Video game and digital media analyst Michael Pachter predicts "GTA 6" will be launched in 2020, with a release date likely happening in 2022. His prediction left some room for potential delays, considering how much work it takes to develop a game as big as the next "GTA" installment.

Female lead character

One of the most-requested additions to the game is a female protagonist. Since the "GTA" franchise was launched, most central characters were male — even though female characters have always played important roles in the series. Rumor has it that "GTA 6" will change things up by introducing a female lead character.

While it's possible for Rockstar to introduce a female at the center of the "GTA 6" world, she will probably be just one of the several leads. It has been previously hinted that Rockstar will stick with its multiple playable character approach that was first launched in "GTA 5."

Location

There are speculations that "GTA 6" will feature a location that has already been used in a previous installment. However, Rockstar's Leslie Benzies already hinted in 2013 that they are planning to expand the "GTA" universe by introducing new settings. He revealed that Rockstar's goal for the game is "to grow this world until it's the 'world.' We're just going to add on new things to it, new places all the time."
