'GTA Online' DLC update: Rockstar announces event for Independence Day event

Rockstar Games has confirmed that the Independence Day Special will return to "GTA Online," along with other bonus content for the 4th of July weekend.

In an announcement posted on the Rockstar Newswire, the developer revealed that from July 1 to July 4, an Independence Weekend Playlist will be added to "GTA Online," with missions unlockable for up to eight players. The timed exclusive playlist will have double the rewards for cash and reputation points.

Meanwhile, aside from the timed exclusive playlist, some special "GTA Online" vehicles will be discounted at 25 percent off their regular in-game prices, including the Liberator monster truck and Sovereign motorcycle. The two in-game vehicles are special for the timed exclusive, since they are a requirement for the Independence Weekend Playlist.

Aside from the vehicles, the Firework Rocket Launcher and ammunition will also be on discounted sale.

Hardcore fans of "GTA Online" will also be glad since Rockstar Games, instead of coming out with shortlisted items for the 4th of July weekend, has decided to bring back the original Independence Day Special items, which were first released almost two years ago. All patriotic gears like hats and shirts, and timed exclusives on haircuts and masks will also have a special 25 percent discount.

The first "Independence Day Special" was launched in 2014 as part of the 1.15 patch. However, instead of a weekend-long timed exclusive from the original launch, this year's extra content will be available for "GTA Online" players for an extended amount of time, as the expansion pack will be available from July 1 to 11.

Having an Independence Day-themed expansion has been expected for "GTA Online," since Rockstar Games habitually celebrates real-world events with in-game content. In addition, the developer has constantly updated the multiplayer content at regular intervals. However, not much has been said with expanding the single-player campaign for the current "Grand Theft Auto V" story, though there are rumors that Rockstar Games may be thinking of new DLC packs for the title, before focusing on "Grand Theft Auto VI."
