'GTA V' news: Developer to bring Rockstar Editor to consoles

Developer and publisher Rockstar Games will be bringing its Editor function to the console versions of its "Grand Theft Auto V" title. According to a post on Rockstar Newswire, the official announcements page for the company, Rockstar Games will introduce the feature to the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 versions of the game.

The post reads, "The upcoming launch of the Rockstar Editor for PS4 and Xbox One as the next update to 'Grand Theft Auto V' and 'GTA Online' means the next Rockstar Editor contest will be the first one with entries across all three platforms."

The Rockstar Editor is a feature currently available for the PC version of "Grand Theft Auto V" and "GTA Online." In the Editor, players can record, edit, and share the different highlights of their game. Unlike third-party video editing software, the Rockstar Editor has specialized options especially designed for the game. The app has a complete and wide range of tools such as different camera modes, audio enhancements, graphics filters, and video effects which can be accessed directly in-game, without logging out of the "GTA" titles.

The app is also a great tool for customizing content, since the Rockstar Editor also has a Director mode, wherein players can create machinima, animated films that use characters, locations, and in-game accessories from the "Grand Theft Auto V" and "GTA Online" games. The Director mode is versatile enough that players can even use it to recreate other films, such as seen on an uploaded YouTube footage showing a player using the Rockstar Editor to recreate the intro for "House of Cards."

As what Rockstar Games has mentioned in the post, the Rockstar Editor is also a feature that the company uses for some of their fan contests, the latest being a video contest based on the "Ill-Gotten Gains" DLC.
