Although the current "Grand Theft Auto V" was launched way back in 2013, developer Rockstar Games remains silent on when can fans anticipate a continuation. Meanwhile, different speculations continue to float online about the much-expected "Grand Theft Auto VI" outing.

According to Master Herald, the rumors pertaining to "GTA VI" being released in 2018 seem dubious, and a fan wishlist item at best. However, the industry follower said that should the predictions prove true, then the release of the next "Grand Theft Auto" installment can be considered a blessing, as this will mean an early outing for the game.

Based on the timeline that the previous titles were launched, Rockstar Games took more than five years or so to make and polish a "Grand Theft Auto" title, based the release dates of "GTA IV" and "GTA V." However, since the current installment was launched in September 2013, this means that the next "GTA" will have launched prematurely, if the 2018 prediction comes true.

Although the early release will just be off by a couple of months against a "standard" Rockstar Games outing, a few months could spell a huge difference in terms of quality and audience feedback, particularly for a massive title like the "Grand Theft Auto" franchise.

However, the 2018 outing remains a prediction and joins other rumors about the upcoming franchise installment. Speculations range from the release date of "GTA VI," to how different it will be from previous titles.

Currently, rumors say that the next "Grand Theft Auto" game will feature a multiple-city layout, with different locations from the previous titles appearing in one massive map. In addition, it is said that Rockstar Games may offer a different model for the game itself, offering a subscription-based gameplay much like another successful franchise, "World of Warcraft."
